Before You Arrive

What to Bring and How to Prepare

We want your stay at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center to be as comfortable and safe as possible. Before arriving, please bring only essential personal items, including:

  • Robe, nightgown or pajamas, slippers
  • Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, etc.)
  • Reading or writing materials
  • Glasses, contact lenses, or dentures (in a protective case)
  • Insurance cards and photo ID

Please do not bring valuables or electrical appliances (battery-powered devices are permitted). Maternity patients should also bring an outfit for the baby to wear home.

TV service is free, and you may request to opt out of the complimentary admissions kit by informing your nurse.

Advance Directives

Your Rights, Your Wishes

At Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, we honor your right to make decisions about your medical care. Advance directives allow you to share your healthcare preferences in writing before you are unable to do so.

There are two main types of advance directives:

  • Living Will: States the kinds of medical treatments you do or do not want if you are seriously ill or unable to communicate.
  • Healthcare Agent/Proxy: Designates a trusted person to make decisions on your behalf if you’re unable to do so.

Upon admission, we will ask whether you have an advance directive and if you have wishes regarding organ donation. These questions are required by law and help us ensure your care aligns with your values.

Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) Orders

Understanding Your Rights and Medical Decisions

Arkansas Methodist Medical Center honors the rights of patients to make informed decisions about their medical care, including the choice to forgo resuscitative efforts in the event of a cardiac or respiratory arrest.

Unless there is a signed “Do Not Resuscitate” (DNR) order in your medical record, all patients will receive full resuscitative measures. A DNR order is only written after thoughtful discussions between you and your physician, and, when appropriate, your family. If a DNR is in place, we will continue to provide comfort measures and pain relief to support your quality of life.

If you are being transferred to AMMC from another facility with an existing DNR order, please ensure the proper documentation accompanies you so that your wishes can be upheld.

If you have questions or wish to discuss a DNR order, please speak with your physician or contact our Social Services Department at 870-239-7153.

Name Bands

Helping Us Keep You Safe

For your safety and to ensure accurate care, all patients at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center receive a name band upon admission. This band helps identify you during treatments, tests, and medication administration.

  • Please wear your name band at all times during your stay.
  • If it becomes damaged or is removed for any reason, notify your nurse immediately so a replacement can be provided.
  • Staff members are trained to check your name band before any procedure, medication, or care service.

This simple step plays a vital role in delivering safe, personalized care.

Medications

Keeping Your Treatment Safe and Accurate

For your safety, only take medications that are provided by your nurse during your stay. These medications are ordered by your physician and carefully managed by our pharmacy team.

  • Do not bring medications from home. If you have them with you, inform your nurse immediately so they can be documented and stored if necessary.
  • Let your care team know about all medications you take at home, including over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and supplements.
  • If you have any questions about the medications you’re being given, please ask your nurse or physician.
  • Our pharmacy staff and nursing team are available to explain your medication plan and ensure you understand what you’re taking and why.

This process helps us avoid potential interactions, allergic reactions, and duplication of medications.

Telephones

Stay Connected During Your Stay

Each patient room at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center is equipped with a personal telephone so you can stay in touch with friends and family throughout your stay.

  • To receive calls, friends and family should dial 870-239-7XXX, replacing “XXX” with your room number.
  • Outgoing local calls can be made by dialing 9, waiting for a dial tone, and then entering the number.
  • Long-distance calls require a calling card or collect call. Dial 9 for an outside line, then follow your card’s instructions or dial 0 for operator assistance.
  • If you experience any issues with your room phone, dial 0 to reach the hospital operator.

Please note: Long-distance service is not available from patient rooms unless using a calling card or collect call option.

Your safety is our highest priority at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. As part of our commitment to emergency preparedness, we regularly conduct fire and disaster drills throughout the hospital.

Our team is thoroughly trained to respond to emergencies, and these drills help us ensure a safe environment for everyone in the facility.
